Snoring
Snoring is the vibrations of the respiratory structures and the resulting sound due obstructed air movement during breathing whilst sleeping.

Snoring may be a sign or the first alarm of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Snoring is known to cause sleep deprivation to snorers and to those around them, even affecting their relationship. Snoring can affect people of all ages including children. While you sleep, your airways relax and narrow, this effects air pressure within your airways and causes the tissues to vibrate when your airways are blocked. For example, if you have a cold, then you are likely to snore.
Your chances of snoring can also be increased by factors such as:
- Being overweight
- Excessive drinking of alcohol
- Smoking
- Sinus issues
Drinking alcohol will cause the muscles to relax including muscles in the palate and throat, this loss of muscle tone will increase the natural vibrations that occur as the patient breaths.
Lying on the back will cause the airways to partially collapse and increase the chance of snoring.
This is where hypnotherapy can help. We will work together to identify the reasons as to why you or your partner may snore. Along with hypnotherapy, relaxation, visualisation and direct positive suggestions will give you the tools to eliminate the snoring in order for a peaceful sleep for both you and your partner. Please consult your GP in case there are any serious medical issues such as sleep apnea.
